Geschichte der Porzellanherstellung im Gräfenthaler Raum (KOPIE)
The History of porcelain-production in Gräfenthal
The settlement Gräfenthal in Thuringia was first founded in 1337 and got the city-rights in 1412.
The first porcelain fabric was built 1846 at the "Schloßberg", but could only exist for few years.
But at least the foundation in the year 1861, which was the idea of the businessman Carl Schneider, the modeller Karl Unger and entrepreneur Hermann Hutschenreuther, was successful.
After KarlUnger and Hermann Hutschenreuther left the company in 1861 and Carl Schneider died, the factory was continued by Paul Schneider and named as "Carl Schneider´s successors".
Gräfenthals situation on the roads on the trade-street Nürnberg-Leipzig and the construction of the train from Probstzella to Bock-Wallendorf in 1898 benefit the porcelain factories in Taubenbach, Lippelsdorf, Wallendorf and Gräfenthal.
Because of this some other companies were founded:
1877 "Kuch und Co." (later known as "Wagner & Apel")
1891 "Weiß, Kühnert & Co. KG"
1897 "A.H. Pröschold"
1897 "Theodor Wagner & Co." (later "Heinz & Co.")
1906 "Carl Scheidig", which was the last new factory in Gräfenthal.
1925 Carl Scheidig becomes owner of the porcelain factory in Reichmannsdorf, which is nowadays the porcelain museum of the Gräfenthaler manufactory.
